Hal Taylor Rocking Chairs

Welcome to the Hal Taylor Rocking Chairs website! I have been making rocking chairs since 1992;  it was then that I made my daughter, Rachael, a rocking chair when she was two years old, her rocker was the first chair I ever made.  Since that time I have worked hard to make the most comfortble rocking chair made today. Most who have experienced the comfort of one of my rocking chairs believe that I have succeeded. It is difficult to evaluate a rocking chair via the internet and this is the reason why I have placed an introductory rocking chair video on the opening page. Lets cut to the chase and see exactly what it is that makes this rocking chair so unbelieveably comfortable!

My greatest influence from the world of woodworking has been James Krenov, hands down. His creative use of wood and how he incorporates what the tree gives him into his design, the end result showing equally, his skill and the beauty of the wood, inspired me to view my wood as an equal partner in the chair creation process, not simply a product to be used.

Sam Maloof has obviously been an influence as well.  I remember the first Maloof rocking chair I ever saw. It was a maple rocking chair on display at the Renwick Gallery in Washington D.C. I looked that chair over from top to bottom for more than an hour and would have stayed longer had my wife, Wendy not dragged me away. It was Sam who showed me that a rocking chair could also be a work of art.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my web site. If you would like me to make you a beautiful rocking chair, made to fit you perfectly then drop me a note or give me a call.
